... however, would it have hurt the friggin' director to tape the movie in Amherst, MA, where it's based, and not in stupid LA...

I hate it when they do that! You *know* its not Boston or CT or the midwest or wherever. Its obviously LA or NY or some soundstage. Grr.

Jyll made a good point to me earlier though. It costs more money for the towns to close down the streets than it does for the film studios to create a fake set. I bet Affleck's movie shooting in Boston is costing the city a pretty penny.
