Okay, so I just got a phone call from my mom. She and my dad want me to take the summer off and go out to California to see them for a month or so, during which time she promised me a cruise, a trip to Big Bear Lake to waterski, and Broadway shows. I was excited, but hesitant. To find out what is wrong with me friendslist, read on ( Read more... )

Don't rush graduating. I think you should take the time off, visit family, see the sights, then come back after the summer is over, fully refreshed and ready to finish your schooling :)

Ne Kassy I agree with the other comments. Take a break. How often are you going to be able to take breaks once you begin working full time and no longer have the summers that you didn't take advantage of? I'm very quickly realizing how valuable my days off are.

It's a great way to refresh yourself and remotivate yourself too methinks. Also delays the burnout.

I think you should relax and take the cruise! Graduating in December versus May will give the economy a little bit of time to kick back to...something better than at the moment.

I'm not sure about how internships for your field work, but if you wanted to work a six-month one (though you would be graduating even later) you'd wind up with even more experience at the end of it, and if they like you, they might hire you! (Like I'm really hoping my job does...since everyone else in the newspaper biz is laying off people left and right. Damn you Rupert Murdoch.)

And no, you're not crazy. I feel horribly burnt out from working and being in college five years in a row....I haven't even taken a vacation since I got here ( going home doesn't count ). I really wish I had taken some time off to go do something other than work or school for a change.

I think taking a month-long break from the rigors of academics will leave you coming back refreshed and ready for more! And hey, free cruise. ^^;

Not to very too much from the crowd, but what does your department expect of you? Is it alright with them for you to leave for a month in the summer? If it is, I would say take the time and go home, but check with your mentor/adviser about the department's expectations.
