This Day
Quiet greeted him as he entered his quarters.
“Honey, I’m home. Is supper ready?” Unbuttoning his jacket, he followed the sound of her laughter.
“Yes, dear.”
He started at the sight of her.
“They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” she said coyly.
“Feeding a man does not claim his heart. However, if you do it right, you can certainly catch his attention.”
“Are you caught?”
“Most definitely.”
Still wearing his brown robe, she held a drink.
“Love your outfit,” he rasped.
“I didn’t feel like getting dressed.” The way she said it sent a shiver down his spine.
“I don’t mind,” he breathed.
She smiled seductively.
“Love your hair.”
“Green matched…”
“The color of your eyes. And now?”
“Red.” She brushed her fingers across the head scarf she now wore. “Passion, desire, and courage-things I lost, but have found again.”
“You are the most beautiful woman in all the universe.”
She blushed.
“Yours or mine?” He nodded to the drink in her hand.
“Ours.” She took a sip of the amber liquid and handed him the glass. “Share a cocktail, then a meal.”
“What’s on the menu?”
Her eyes flashed with mischief. “Me.”
