If Wishes Were Horses, Beggars Would Ride

The lights in Sickbay were dim.

With the diloxin needle stuck in her arm, Laura tried to get comfortable.

There was nothing comfortable about having cancer.

A wave of nausea washed over her.  She took a deep breath and waited for Bill.

At least it was quiet.

Until his mournful wailing began.

Alone, she sleeps in the shirt of man,
With my three wishes clutched in her hand.
The first, that she be spared the pain,
That comes from a dark and laughing reign.
When she finds love, may it always stay true,
This I beg, for the second wish I made too.
But wish no more, my life, you can take,
To have her, please, just one day wake
To have her, please, just one day wake…

It was an eerie lament.

He actually had a very nice voice, but his repetition of the dirge drove her to the edge.

She wanted to clutch more than his three wishes in her hand.  She wanted his throat.

“FELIX!  For the love of Kobol, what is the third wish?!”

Gaeta froze mid-lyric.  That was the President’s voice.

“For a happy ending?” he squeaked.

His answer was as lame as he was.
