Hourglass

I can’t save you.

The poison buys you time.

He won’t leave your bedside.

Speaks to you in a voice I’ve never heard before.

Holds your hand.

Reads to you.

When you drift off he kisses you softly.

You want to be home.

Home is with him.

I can’t save you.

There is no cure.

I know it.

You know it.

He knows it.

We lied to each other, pretending to believe in miracles.

Time is running out.

I can’t save you.

I need to send you home.

And I wonder if he will ever forgive me when you’re gone.
