Tilting at Windmills

He found her on the observation deck.

She stood before the expanse of windows, staring at the tiny pinpoints of light-diamonds on the black velvet backdrop of space.

It was a breathtaking sight.

“Back on Colonial One I grew so tired of looking at the stars through the window.  At night on New Caprica, I used to go outside and stare and stare.  I never appreciated the view from here.”

He stood behind her.

She knew he was there.  She always knew.

“Ever see a little light.  Before the dawn of the light.  Got a woman by a stream.  Gonna show her all my dreams.”

Holding back tears, she smiled at his silly song.

That moment between them on New Caprica seemed a lifetime ago…

She didn’t turn to face him.  She didn’t need to.

He snaked his arms around her, pulled her close.  Her silken hair brushed his cheek.  He inhaled deeply, filling his lungs with her scent.

He felt her body mold to his as she leaned into him.

It was her surrender.

They had all tilted at windmills.

She took a steadying breath.  “Where thou art - that…”

“… - is home.” He tightened his hold.  “You’re home.”
