The cabin by the lake-it was a journey he made frequently.
They were his people.
The spirited lilt of her voice.
The rumbling timbre of his.
Her gentle touch.
His firm patting.
These were the things he loved.
And the red ball. The man threw it.
The Border Collie rocketed away…
“He’s having a seizure, Bill.”
His eyes closed, Jake’s legs twitched. Soft squeaks and muffled barks escaped him.
Bill laughed. “No, he’s dreaming. I could use a good one myself.”
“You’d rather dream life?”
“No.” He pulled her into his arms. “With you, I want to live it.”
