Yumiko is pretty. -ko, as you're probably aware, is a common ending of a girl's name meaning like "child of," or making the name more gentle, so to speak. *can't explain* Yumi can mean bow (as in bow and arrow). In a name, it can also mean "beautiful aroma," "beautiful hair," "beautiful happiness," "beautiful air," "beautiful hot water" (I think that one's just phonetic XD), "beautiful lily," "dream and sea," "voice of the heart," "beautiful voice," "beautiful snowfall," "calm light," and a lot of other things that don't really make sense. XD It depends on the kanji. Some of the characters used are just to get the phonetic "yu" and "mi."
Anyhow, Matsudaira is a very, very uncommon and unusual surname.
