I hate bass. Well not really, I just hate the thumping you can hear through walls and from cars and shit. It's really annoying. However, the dude that lives next to me now listens to his music like 6 hours straight a day and all I get to hear is BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. Actually it's more than six hours because it was on at noon until I left at two

I suggest asking him to turn it down, but do it earlier in the day so that you aren't as frustrated. Perhaps he isn't aware of how far the sound is going. Or you could ask him to turn down the bass, loud music is easier to deal with than loud music with lots of bass.

the walls at my apartment are paper thin, so when my neighbors were being really loud partying or whatever, I just went over and asked them to keep it down, because some people like to sleep. They didn't seem to upset or anything, and they kept the noise down from then on.

you could always do the fun pounding on the wall that you and him share. now that is passive aggressive. haha. hmmm i would probably end up leaving a note because i am non confrontational. but i wouldn't call it passive aggressive.
