First Lord and Lady of Lochac

I'm very fond of the piece of work - despite its many problems. It was my first completed illumination and my first (decidedly flawed) attempt at period style portraiture.

This is a detail image only, mostly of the miniature. It portrays Reynardine & Eleanor in the wreaths of victory after the first Principality tourney AS21 (Rowany Festival, I think).

Style of illumination is 14th century French based on various Books of Hours. I am unaware of any actual portraits included in, manuscripts of this style (true portraits are found - usually of patrons of the artist - in some 15th century manuscripts). Gouache on manuscript style paper. Miniature size (18 x 20 cm), whole illumination (30cm x 42 cm).

Dodgy calligraphy, a more naturalistic later style of portraiture than the surrounding illumination, proportions too modern, bad renditions of 14th century style drapery, missing highlights on the illumination, odd looking pavillions, missing grass, and that sad yellow dog at the bottom of the image is meant to be a fox!

I still rather like it. *g*
