Israel using Holocaust guilt to continue Gaza op, says British Jewish MP

Jan 16, 2009 00:22

A British lawmaker declared Thursday that Israel was taking advantage of the guilt many non-Jews feel over the Holocaust to ruthlessly press ahead with its offensive against Hamas in Gaza.

Gerald Kaufman, a governing Labour Party legislator, sharply criticized Israel in a House of Commons debate on Gaza, arguing that the Jewish state has exploited ( Read more... )

We all know it's true and I agree they have used their own dead since the holocaust.

I don't know how they can act so shamefully in abusing their own dead as well as their actions for the past 60 years.

This is absolutely true but not only this they have also used the holocaust to make huge amounts of money and yet the holocaust survivors beg on Israel's streets.

It is true and yet they seem to feel no sense of shame for any of the vile things they have done and are still doing.

It's good that he is speaking out especially when we know how he will be attacked as a self hating Jew verbally and possibly physically but the numbers doing likewise are woefully small.

It implies that most of world Jewry is behind Israel and they need to explain how they can do to others what they don't believe was right when it was done to them. Either they believe what Nazis did to them was okay or they must believe what Israel is doing to Palestinians is wrong. They cannot have it both ways. I think they should be tackled on this both as groups who support Israel and individually.

Of course he will be attacked in all manner of ways but the more people who speak out and the more the world will hear the truth and witness the reaction from a sick majority the better.

I couldn't agree more and I make it my job to question and out them all now. They must be held up to society and shown as they truly are.

The world needs many more like him but sadly Jewish people are more likely to support the Neo Nazi regime of Israel than speak against it which makes them lower than low because they should know better.

Thank you for this - I went back and read the whole transript - I've had replies back to my protest letters and emails from the HoP and my school is going to hold some debates and workshops regarding the situation (a bold move because of the nature of the student mix we have here) - I've asked to help. I've also hooked up with some like-minded faculty.

Brick by brick? It's so not over :/

I got both emails and letters back! Hang on, I'll C+P the email thingy.. I thought it rather woolly but was more than I was expecting. Getting envelopes marked 'From the House of Commons' on caused quite a stir in teh household. G was 'cool' and the CF was 'OMG, what have you done now ( ... )

It is cool and also a bit wtf to get such letters but it mostly feels good to be making some kind of stand.

I'm sure we are on some kind of database. lol. I will be because I email directly to people in Gaza and the West Bank and plague the Israeli government with letters, calls and emails. ;0)

Thanks for sharing your letter. Here is what I think of his reply....

I entirely share your view that the military actions in Gaza of the Israeli Government are unacceptable. I strongly support the position taken by the British Government and others in seeking a ceasefire and cessation of all military action as soon as possible. I am delighted that this has now been achieved and appears to be accepted by both Israel and Hamas.

It's laughable that he should support the British government because they did pish. Brown uttered the same old same old and let Israel commit genocide. As for ceasefire, Israel has bombed Gaza just about daily ever since the so called ceasefire began.

This is of course only a very short-term stopgap and a longer- ( ... )
