thanks for the birthday wishes. i didn't know krystal was a virgo, too!! you know virgos and tauruses are supposed to be compatible signs. :)
also want to thank you for posting the results of rockstar supernova. you are the only human i know in portland who is watching it. so your lj's been an opportunity for me to connect with others on that.
when i feel like i am not seeing the light (literally, thank you) i head for the art gallery and look at paintings. it’s sort of illumination therapy for me.
i am drawn to the third one, though i would do a little burn on the highlights - i find doing it in an overlay adds a bit of ‘sculpting’. smithcolour? perfect may be in the eye of the beholder, but the creator makes the final cut.
do try to ignore the numerical aspects of the ½c point (somewhere there is a self-photo i took when i turned that age, in portland even.) much joyousness and good stuff on your birthday! as far as gems go you is one big diamond m’dear.
"DOING IT IN AN OVERLAY???" you're way beyond my skill set in photoshop, i see... how do i do this "overlay" thing? is this the same as "layers"?
LET'S SEE THAT SELF PORTRAIT, JAMES W!!!! c'mon, cough it up! if you do it right here in my lj, i'm the only one who will see it!
thanks for the birthday wishes. i have already gotten a lot of kewl stuff in the mail! :) i am glad you think i'm i diamond. mostly, i think of myself as quartz. :) ttyl s
ok, grab onto yo’ mouse and let’s boogie . . . (i think it’s the same in cs as with the crap version i use) 1. create a new layer - the layer will be selected by default - i’ll assume you have an image open (-; 2. change the layer type to “overlay” 3. fill with 50% grey - edit-fill . . . you can see this on the layer thumbnail (nothing will happen to the image) 4. switch to the brush tool, start with a nice soft edge brush and set the opacity to around 20% to start 5. use black to burn, white to dodge (select at the bottom of the tool bar . . .) 6. start painting on the overlay. yo! 7. use the layer opacity to attenuate if too intense 8. you can also use the gaussian blur filter to soften the effects . . . kewl, eh. after you play with one it’s easy. tomorrow we selectively add filters using the alpha channel (-:
ok, since it’s your birthday dear . . . you may regret asking
OMGGGGGG!! WELL, BESIDES THE CONTEXT OF THE IMAGE ITSELF ("what a dork" -says under breath) you are NOT funny looking. WTF, james??? you were supposed to be funny-looking!!
i'll try that process...but not today. today i'm all about playing. it's m'bday! also, thank you for taking the time to write it, jim.
first of all, i like the crop. putting the subject out of center is always veryh comforting to be and also aethetically pleasing. second, 50 years! you have embarked upon a most magnificent milestone. do you consider yourself to be in the age of the crone? i am fascinated by these life transitions. although, i must admit, staring 30 directly in it's three-decades-eyes kinda scares me. i've danced my way, spinning and singing the whole way, into the age of mother, waving a loving goodbye to my maiden years. so natually, i am now intrigued with the thougth of my life's next milestone/big change. i sit back and watch my mother, aunts, friends as they embrace and perfect it so damn well. in conclusion of my ramblings, happiest birthday wishes and love yourself today! let it be filled with decadence and beauty and all that is right in this crazy world! aubrey
hiya, aubrey! man-o-man, my 30's were the best time of my life! i got sober when i was 30. it was like being born all fresh!
hey, is that you in the icon? YOU LOOK SO CUUUTE!! yup, i know you're a mom. i don't know how people do that; i've never had that instinct. sometimes i wonder what it would be like to have an adult daughter, but the diapers=thing and the "terrible twos" -i don't think so. :) i leave that up to you!!
thanks so much for your comments, aubrey! i'm glad we met. s
WOOT WOOT WOOT HAPPY BIRTHDAY & I'll say it again tomorrowwhatifitworksSeptember 9 2006, 10:49:57 UTC
I like the third one. The light looks more natural and less electronic...
YAY, so birthday! What are you doing? Birthdays are so lovely. You are older, you;ve made it though another year and you get gifts and good wishes and lovelyness.
I really wish I could have sent you the dinoflagellates on time now. I didn't know it was really going to be your birthday so damn soon. I will try and find out who took 'em (more than just a name I mean) and if I can get a real print....
