Huh, sounds like an obscure phobia....

I know of someone who doesn't like it when her food on her plate touches.... I guess that one is more common than I had thought.

Mine are pretty common.... heights, spiders etc.

No - it's definitely not a phobia since it comes and goes. It's more of a sensation thing. Sometimes it's perfectly fine and other times it just feels really uncomfortable. I've noticed the hand thing longer than the foot one but they both come and go. It feels like I need to stretch them apart. Perhaps it's a mild cramp or something.

I've had odd skin sensations for the past year and a half, and your discription sounds somewhat familiar. It reminds me of when my fingers and toes have gotten wet and end up looking like little Shar Pei puppies - they reeeeeally dislike that pruney feeling, often it's uncomfortable enough to touch anything until they've gotten completely dry (the only thing comfy for my shriveled wet feet is a pair of wicker slippers which I step in to first thing when getting out of the shower/tub). Aside from fingers and toes, and perhaps slightly unrelated, another thing I experience as uncomfortable is the touch of anything chalky - chalk pebbles, pastels, even hard-water stains. Also, when I'm tired, stressed, and/or with fibropains I feel skin sensations in my arms: prickly, burning (like a mild sunburn from the inside out), chills, or general discomfort. My doctor is still puzzled whether it's related to thyroid stuff (or other conditions such as fibromyalgia or neuropathy - although neuropathy is more about tingling/numbness). I've been told ( ... )

Interesting. I feel prickly sensations sometime too. I used to say that I could feel the blood flowing through my veins as that's what it feels like. Also, after walking I get a heartbeat in my legs (kind of like a ticking in my muscles)for a few minutes. Not uncomfortable but really freaking odd.

The toes thing just started so it's possible it's due to the mono. I'm pretty well hydrated at the moment since all I can have is water and I'm drinking it a lot. Though despite that I'm still constantly thirsty. Perhaps it might be an electrolyte thing. I don't have a lot of sugars in my system right now and my salt and water intake are pretty high right now.

i get the ticky thing, too, after long walks.

re hydration, you need salt, water AND potassium to feel fully hydrated. take a look at potassium foods lists to see what's on there that you can eat.

Hmm, that's really odd since I'm drinking a lot of water. I use quite a bit of salt for seasoning (but not a crazy amount) and right now I'm eating a lot of avocados and tomatoes, veggies and onions etc. I also drink mineral water as well as regular water so I should have lots of potassium in my system.

the only thing I have that comes remotely close to this is that I can't stand my toes being smooshed together in shoes. this requires special shoes with an extra-wide toe box, so that my toes can breathe. I am a speshul snowflake. ;)

hope you get to the bottom of this conundrum. doesn't sound fun at all!

The weird thing is that I'm fine when I'm wearing shoes. It's just sometimes when I'm relaxing that my toes feel funny and want to be separated. Still seems to me like it might be a slight cramp or something.

I have really weird symptoms to things. That's probably why I'm so hard to diagnose and treat. It's annoying but it makes me special too. :-)
