He hadn't been this high since he was in his twenties, fresh out of the fleet with no job options and no real concern for anything but getting completely wasted. But getting sloppy wasn't the goal today, no, he wanted to have a relatively clear head for this.

As the sun began setting on New Caprica, Laura had wordlessly taken his hand as they sat watching the younger citizens only beginning their night of revelry. Her breathy suggestion of going somewhere quieter had stirred something very primal, very urgent in him.

Laura was a very loquacious stoner, by her own proudly uttered declaration. She was also rather giggly, finding humor in the littlest things. He found he rather liked that about her. They'd smoked their initial joint early in the afternoon, then he'd had to compose herself for the groundbreaking ceremony. Laura herself had disappeared back to her tent, muttering Baltar's name and more than a few curses in a string of words that drifted away on the wind. Bill had wandered around the main square aimlessly for a while after the ceremony, socializing with his crew in the much less formal atmosphere of the blooming party. After a while, he'd parked himself on a bench just to watch the people.

They all seemed so...

Happy wasn't the word. Content might be better. No one could truly be happy after all that they'd been through as a people since the Fall. Small smiles and tentative touches from one person to another were beginning to lay the groundwork for their recovery. He didn't know what the future held on this little planet, but for now, the people could be at ease.

Laura sauntered up some time later, walking across the square as if she owned the place. He smiled at her easy confidence as she walked toward him, her eyes never leaving his as her smile broadened. She bore another two glasses of alcohol in her hands, her intentions to get him frakked up pretty clear. Bill accepted his glass with a wide grin and watched her swivel her hips to lower herself to the bench beside him. He took a sip and rolled the sweet liquid around for a moment before swallowing, welcoming the familiar burn.

"Watching the kids play," he said quietly.

Laura only hummed and leaned a bit closer to him, the sleeve of his uniform occasionally brushing against her arm. It was remarkably easy to sit here with her and just enjoy the company. Occasionally, his eyes drifted to the side to look at her, and more than once, she smiled guiltily as she was caught doing the same thing. The sun began to sink low in the afternoon sky and he found himself looking at her unabashedly now, intrigued by the way the warm glow infused her entire being in fire.

Sometime shortly before the sun dipped below the horizon, her hand slipped into his, her tiny fingers lacing with his own. Neither of them said a word, only smiling at each other sidelong. Once the sun finally gave up its hold on the sky for the day, she leaned over and whispered in his ear, her breath tickling more than just his skin.

"We should go somewhere a little less noisy," she said in a breathy drawl, every word a staccato on his flesh, making his arms break out in gooseflesh. Her breath was hot and moist and damned if it doesn't suddenly make him have thoughts of a lascivious nature. "Somewhere without an audience."

His answering grin sent her into a fit of giggles as she stood up, pulling him up with her, and guided his hand around her waist. He settled it comfortably onto the top of her hip and gave her a gentle squeeze, then guided them off into the darkness.
