"I just saw on TV. What the hell are you thinking?" came Lee's anguished shout over the phone.
Bill sighed and sat back down on the edge of the bed. He reached for the remote and changed the channel from the classic film noir they had been watching to the brash colors and even brasher commentators of CTV. Laura's hand slid from under the comforter to rest on his bare hip as they watched for a few moments.
BREAKING NEWS: FMR PRES ROSLIN ELOPES WITH RET ADM ADAMA, the banner read.
"It's good to hear from you, son," Bill sighed. "Delegate Adama. Sorry I wasn't at your swearing-in."
"Because you were too busy running off with that woman! That frakking---"
Bill stood up so quickly that Laura jumped back, startled. "That what? Huh? You watch what you say about that woman," he snapped. "It's bad enough that your party and your lapdog Baltar pilloried her for no reason, painted her as some sort of crazed maniac in the interest of scoring a few more votes. But you will not talk about her in that tone of voice. You remember yourself."
Lee breathed heavily into the phone. "How long has it been going on?" he asked in a level tone.
Bill parted the drapes a tiny sliver to see if the press was still camped out in Laura's driveway. "Before she was elected," he admitted.
"Frak," Lee swore.
"Look, when you can be more civil, we'll have you over for dinner. She'd like to meet you."
Lee sighed loudly. "Give me some time, okay?"
"Alright. Take care, Lee."
He turned off his phone and flopped down beside Laura, throwing an arm over her warm body and snuggling into her.
"Lee sends his regards."
Laura's snorting laughter was well worth the call.
