http://foodster.codeshack.ca/ So, one of my group projects in Human Computer Interactions is to design a service that will help people access local resources, rather than global resources. The tagline is essentially "Think Globally, Act Locally". After the semester, this project will be submitted to the ACM contest, which you can learn more about here.
http://chi2009.org/Authors/CallForPapers/StudentDesignCompetition.html Basically, our project is designed to be a social community which is based around trading homegrown food with neighbours and friends, as well as a recipe database to help people use that food in their cooking. And our prototype just went live. But this is just a prototype, it's far from being perfect.
So, this is a bit of a call for help. You see, this course is based around our ability to create a really good user interface for our social network. And a really good UI is based around alot of user input. So, if you're interested, go check out our site. Please. There's a beta feedback box on every page, so if you see something that seems out of place or difficult to access, just write it in the box and we'll get the feedback. Comments in this LJ will also work. So, here's a link to the site...
http://foodster.codeshack.ca/ As a quick guideline, here's some of the things you should expect to be able to do, after you register and login.
- Register an account and log in
- Post a Recipe
- Search for a Recipe
- Make Variations on existing recipes
- Post comments on a recipe
- Post that you are growing something in your garden
- Search for food people are selling
- Sell something you are growing
- Find a person
I should also note that right now, the database needs some serious populating. So please, sign up and post some recipes and produce. In the meantime, to test the search functions, you should be able to search and find the following:
- Lasagna (Under Recipes)
- Tomatoes (Under Foods)
- Alex (Under People)
If anyone else from here does help populate the database, if you comment in here with what you added, it can help other people search for something new and unique. Also, the comments should be mostly focused on the usability of the site, feedback about colour schemes and such are less useful.
tl;dr version:
I need help testing the usability of a prototype for class. Please check out this site and leave some feedback on what would make the site easier to use.
