I'm sad

You may have heard of a baseball player being stabbed to death? He was a Mariner. I liked Greg Halman a lot. Maybe my reasons weren't so great (he was Dutch! He also had a great smile, but they made me like him. I remember being excited over his first MLB home run.

Here and here and here (audio that starts playing automatically) are some local ( Read more... )

I hadn't heard, but oh my god. :( Stuff like this always makes me sad, even if I'm not familiar with who the person is, but he was 24, oh my god. That's so awful.

I KNOW. I still just haven't wrapped my head around it at all.

That's so awful! How terrible. And so young, too. Not that it would be better if he were older, just that wow, at 24 his life has barely begun.

Yeah. Like, people are mentioning how maybe he could've really broken out and been in a star in a few years, but it's not just about baseball. He had so much ahead of him in general.

That's terrible :(

(In some other post, maybe, I totally want to hear what you think about the new wild card format/CBA/MVP.)

Yeah. I can't process it. :(

(Oh yes, we should talk about that! of course, some of my opinions boil down, "Well, I'm not really a fan, but I can't do anything about it and I'll get used to it," haha. And I love Verlander a lot, so was kind of happy on that level? Not sure he was the right choice, but I also disagreed with a lot of the arguments against him.)

I can't believe it. Like, he played on your team. It's sickening.

Meaning the "everyday player" argument, or the "Cy Young is the pitcher's MVP" argument? I'm an everyday-player argument proponent, personally. Also a Pedro-in-1999-for-MVP person. (Not that I remember him then, but his numbers were INSANE.) All of this is not to detract from Verlander's awesomeness! He was awesome.

I... don't even know where I stand on the wild card. I don't like the idea of a one-game playoff, or of the regular season meaning less - at the same time, though, I like that it's important to win the division? I don't know, I'm conflicted.

YEAH. Like, it's sad no matter what, but it hits you harder when it's YOUR PLAYER.

Meaning the "everyday player" argument, or the "Cy Young is the pitcher's MVP" argument? I'HA. Kind of both? My problem is that, as it stands right now, pitchers ARE eligible for the MVP, so I feel like we SHOULD consider them. That said, I do think we probably need two separate awards. I don't think it's fair to compare position players and pitchers. I've seen people suggest separate awards for each and then one overall MVP, but I'm not sure I even like that? They're just too different ( ... )

It's just so awful for his family. Obviously would be anyway, but to have his brother under suspicion . . .
