Ah. Approximately how reformed a pirate would he happen to be? On the one hand, I of all people appreciate the value of needing a second chance. On the other, it would be somewhat embarrassing to do the localized equivalent of hiring Yuffie to guard a safe full of materia.

And from some of his recounting of earlier escapades in the city, I'm not entirely certain that card sharpery and the like is as past-tense as we might wish for one in government employ.

Perhaps, if you consider him worth the effort, an initial supervisory period might be advisable? to ensure that he doesn't AGAIN end up shanghaied in the alleys by a braided thief or harlot or whatever that was, and subsequently liberated of both legally gotten and questionably gotten government money, for instance?

Don't worry, I'll make sure that he understands just how much trouble he'll be in if he messes up. And just how hard it'd be to fool any of us. After all, regardless of his skill level, he's still completely human. Guy doesn't stand a chance if he tries messing with us.

I'm thinking he's someone who could use some more discipline in his life. Kinda strikes me as the type to go crazy without an anchor, you know?

It sounds as though you've thought this through, then. Go ahead; I trust you to find him a position suited to his talents.

Although I'd perhaps advise against putting him on video surveillance on the same shift as, say, Reno. Two such volatile exuberant personalities in the same room as a lot of delicate electronics -- the mere thought makes me wince for the repair budget... and Balthier also seems as though he might go stir-crazy with nothing more physical to do, whereas Reno's inherent preferences for laziness, voyeurism, and free entertainment makes him well suited to a surveillance job.

In any case -- yes, Cloud, Zack, and I are the ...not precisely surviving so much as reincarnated Soldiers here. Rufus and Reno are present as well. Be careful if you decide to visit Rufus. His landlord-and-employer has been known to eat people alive. And I don't mean that he has a bad temper; I have a bad temper. He eats people alive.

...I try very hard not to be. I hope that I mostly succeed. I leave it to Cloud and to Zack to make the authoritative judgement, however.
