One of the bloggers I read (Kung Fu Monkey) asked his readers to post the movie/tv show/band/book, etc that you couldn't stop begging your friends to read/watch/listen to in 2008.

My list:

Book(s): The Lies of Locke Lamorra by Scott Lynch and the followup book, which Kung Fu Monkey tipped me off to.

I read The Lies of Locke Lamorra based on your recommendation, and enjoyed it a lot. (I would have said something earlier, but by the time I read it I had forgotten who originally suggested it.)

Awesome - I'm glad you read it and enjoyed it! His writing style is so fun... I feel like I'm reading a Joss Whedon script in prose form sometimes, only with lots of cursing. I can't wait for him to write more, because his two books so far have been so enjoyable.

Click on the link there - it's a huge LJ entry I wrote about it over the summer. Basically it's a fantasy story (but not quite a outright fantasy) about a con man and his vendetta against the man controlling his city. Only it's much more than that, and I can't really do it any justice. It's amazing and funny and thrilling all at the same time, with some of the most inventive cursing you'll ever read :) So I'm not sure that all the language is up your alley, but it's a fun read!

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh! THAT'S the book that i keep trying to remember to check out of the library! geez! every time i go i KNOW there's a book i want to look for but i can never remember what it is so i end up with some random other mismatched collection. i'll have to write it down somewhere.

by the by, i don't like or encourage gratuitous foul language or immodesty or any other type of hedonism, but i am anti-censorship and have the surprising ability to throw out the bad while keeping the good. not many in my realm of the world have that ability, sadly.

That's a good ability to have, and I wish more had it! I just didn't want to point you in the direction of something you could potentially be offended by without a warning. It's always good to know what you're getting into!
