Yeah, I did the grown-up thing when I moved here-- first month I was here I opened up a new bank account with both savings and checking, and drop a decent amount in every paycheck.

...and I've just now forgotten my online password to do just that.

I've been mulling over what king of savings account to put my money in. where did you find this ING account? What's the deal with it, how much interest do you actually get and how much money do you need to start one?

Here's the savings account I have: http://home.ingdirect.com/products/products.asp?s=OrangeSavingsAccount

From what I can tell, there's no minimum. To be honest, I put $50 in it to start :) The interest is 1.85%, which is way better than my savings account at WAMU. What I like about this account is that, since it's an online bank, I can't immediately withdraw my funds. You have to basically fill out the form to withdraw, and it takes two or so days to process - meaning there's no spur of the moment "oo I want a pony!" withdrawals, like with my WAMU account. Course that's not for everyone, so if you want immediate access it's probably better to go with a bricks and mortar bank.

Thanks! I opened one!! Yay! Your post inspired me, I've been meaning to open a ING account for months and I finally did it.

Yup, at our age we gotta start thinking retirement ;-)
