It bounces off itself. That is that the yellow of wall #1 bounces to wall #2, which then bounces to wall #3...you get the picture. Hence, it's overly brightness.
Odd- my sister & I were talking about just this Sunday night. You can try to put another lighter color on top of it - or a glaze to tone it down.

This yellow was so tough that I gave up and went with green. *g* A very pale green that Martha calls "Hooked Rug Green." I like it as there's enough green to look green when it's cloudy or rainy outside, but on those rare days when it's sunny, it washes out and looks luminescently white/green. So, next Saturday's agenda is to finish the room in green!
What room are you and your sister painting now? Or just designer talk in general?
