Covenant Marriage

Jason and I have decided to enter a covenant marriage. Has anybody got information on this? The church where we will be married doesn't have any experience with them, even though the Covenant Marriage Act was passed in 1997. I guess they're not too popular among Louisiana Methodists! I read a little of your scans of the covenant marriage...bravo, Kate! And chocolate fountain?! You're making me want to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory again! I recommend that movie btw if you haven't seen it yet.

My brother had a chocolate fountain for his wedding reception, that thing was awesome :o)

dave and i were planning a covenant marriage, but it involved pre-marital counseling that we didn't have time to get (at the time dave was taking 18 hours of classes, i was taking 15 and working 20 hours a week). it's a really cool idea - mostly symbolic, of course, but awesome nonetheless. the city clerk of court has information on it and they have a webpage with some information on it. good luck! in the end, a covenant marriage simply makes it harder for a couple to divorce, but the idea of partaking in a bond that is that much stronger can only make the relationship that much stronger :)

Thanks for the feedback! We have the paperwork from the Clerk of Court's office. I didn't know the Clerk also maintained a webpage. We've got a few links to other sites, but not one that's "official" covering Louisiana's law. The closest we came was finding one by Katherine Spaht, the author of the CM Act. Do you have the web address for the page you mentioned?

dave took a class with spaht as she teaches at the law school. i think he still has notes from their "family law" class that covers covenant. i'll see if we can dig them up.
