Beautifully said. I always try and make non-soap fans understand that we're not watching these shows because we think they're perfectly written and acted art -- it's because they're familiar and comfortable and because we KNOW these people. AMC isn't "my show," but I know it well enough, and I cried numerous times this week. Just feeling all that history is so powerful.

Thank you. You are right, non-soap fans have a hard time getting what it is about the genre that pulls at us. We do know them, sometimes we know them better then the writers.
