Ugh. I was on depo shots for years, and finally asked the PA I saw how I was supposed to know when my periods stopped if I wasn't having them in the first place. She said, "Not a bad question," and since I was no longer taking the depo for birth control, she suggested stopping it. I was like, noooooooo! But I did, and my periods started again immediately. The timing must have been just right, because in less than a year, they stopped. I had the one year mark in my sights - it had been ten months - when I got another, but that turned out to be the last. I never had horrible mood swings - that I'm aware of. My friends may say differently. Hot flashes, are a different story. Not trying to make you unhappy(er) but the doctor at a lecture I went to said that sometimes they never go away. She had a patient in her eighties who was still having them. Mine were occasionally bad, but never hideous. And I still have them - it's more than ten years - but they are more of an annoyance now. I find diet seems to influence them. ( ... )
