Sunday we woke early to pack the car and drive to Dunbar harbour on the East Coast of Scotland to dive the wreck of the Uxx .... no one could clearly tell us what it was. Having had a night out with freinds before I was a little apprehensive about the dive ..that plus the fact that it was a 40m+ dive and I haven't been in the water since Feb. That ( Read more... )

I'd love to dive Scapa one day -- I need to get more experience before trying 40m dives though. I've only done 32m and that in clear warm water.

Incidentally, how long did you get on the wreck for the 40m dive? Using regular air I suppose at that depth?

Scapa will be great, I'd advise being happy with a 40M dive before you go so you can dive all the wrecks that are there. Some of the most impressive are the battleships and they are quite deep, they're great though. The block ships are good as well - they're much shallower.

Oh, I definitely need to build up my dive experience before getting these depths. Most of the places I go the shallows are the place to be anyway. Still, my deepest dive is to 32m anyway so I need more experience.

We had about 12 minutes on the wreck - that was with about 3 minutes deco leaving the bottom. BSAC tables give 10 minutes no stop dive time and 21 minutes with 2 minutes at 6M deco. We didn't really want to push it too much as I'd not been in the water since Feb and then that was only 20M which isn't ideal for such a deep dive. We were on air but did talk to the skipper about doing a recreational Trimix couse that you can do on a 15L and a pony and would give you narcotic equivalent depth of 10M which would be great for me.
