The Oklahoma City Memorial Run seems to have been utterly worth it-- along with most of the other races, once they're done.
I like the idea that the mental side-effects of the running are helpful, even if they're also the hardest part. Maybe character building?
I wonder if you do much outdoor running and not just treadmill work? The way you use your body is different for both, and if you mostly train on a treadmill for outdoor races, I can imagine it's harder than you expect.
I like this. I always figured all runners loved running or else why would they do it? But it's true, sometimes it's because the alternative is brain explosion and who wants that?
Heh, I actually enjoy running about 50% of the time, though I can certainly relate to the days that are just awful. And yes, I think it has huge mental health benefits (if nothing else all that frustration gets directed at the running instead of somewhere else). My mom used to imagine the face of whoever was pissing her off on the bottom of her shoe so she could step on them for miles.
