Finding a place

I joined a church last year.

I'm 37 and it's the first time I ever regularly attended church. I didn't do it for me, I did it for my nephew.  He craved going to church. He asked about it all the time.

His preschool had been in a neighborhood church and when he moved on to regular school he just missed it so much.

This was really sweet of you to do this for your nephew, even if it's not really a perfect fit for you. It seems like he really needed it, so I'm so glad he's happy and content. Hopefully over time, you'll be able to feel more comfortable and like you belong, too.

I went to a gospel concert last week and felt bad. Like I did not belong and was to be found out any minute. They try to be inclusive and tell everyone about what they believe and possibly convince you , too. But if you do not already believe it is really hard to navigate in that tight mind space.

I'm glad your nephew is so happy there! It was really nice of you to do that for him.

Not everyone comes to a church or a religion with the same background of knowledge and experience, and that's okay. To some extent, that's what church is for.

It sounds as if it and the people are helping you, and it's okay to embrace that without worrying that your path there or your preparation are inadequate. :)
