A friend of mine posted a link on facebook to this excerpt of Joss Whedon's biography on io9, and reading it just made me want Firefly goodness like nothing doing.

So I went and rewatched. While reading all kinds of things about Firefly.

Including this personal post by a fan who tried to ask Joss at a con about the lack of actual Asian

darling! i'm sorry - i already rewatched all that i could this weekend (i'm very much a part of the netflix "do you want to watch the next episode?" YES) trend. it's totally possible to do it over the course of a weekend if you're not doing anything else!

Oh! You're so sweet! Thank you, but it's okay. I decided to do a MM rewatch and I fizzled out on season three--of course!--should really finish that before I watch Firefly.

Never heard or noticed that about Inara - I guess it would have been expanded if a series 2 ever happened?! Weird.

Yeah, it's apparently teased often -- that's the reason why she left the chapter house, is that she found out she was ill, and there's apparently a syringe of some mysterious fluid that she takes in the first episode of the series, and that's all the clues you get. But both the actress and Joss confirmed it.

And it would have been expanded, but not in good ways, trust me.
