Classic Kat Stuff!

The lack of posting yesterday was due to my mother staying with me for the weekend. However, she's left now.
Led Zeppeling were the Rockband of Rockbands. There might be other bands with more intricate songs, faster guitarists, better frontmen or more powerful drummers (actually, strike that last one, there'll never be another Bonzo). But Led Zeppelin had it all in amazing quantities. They had intricacy, one of the best guitarists ever, an amazing bassist, a steam locomotive with feeling as a drummer and last but not least they had the Golden God, the Prince of Peace, the Elven Lord; mr Robert Plant. (Also known as the Human Foghorn (years before Bruce Dickinson...))

The Vikings are heavily mythologised, sometimes to a point that is almost silly. Still, they're pretty cool half-mythic ancestors. And Immigrant Song is a very cool song.

When I first read Lord of the Rings, the Eomer in my mind looked almost exacty like Robert Plant. Still does (despite my love for Karl Urban). The Battle of Evermore has ringwraiths, dark lords, dancing in the dark of night and singing in the morning light. And Sandy Denny. Pure Beauty.

When the Levee Breaks. The drums. The drums.

Mid-early Sisters of Mercy were a big part of my late teens. Late SoM is too metal and really early stuff isn't something anyone should ever be forced to listen to. Andrew Eldritch is entertaining as hell (an NME-writer once said he was "the most entertaining comic character before BartSimpson") but thank god he discovered autotune. For days when I feel nihilistic, hostile and arrogant, there's few band that provide as good a soundtrack.

No Time to Cry is a prime example of Sisters at their peak. Bleak, but in a very in-your-face way.

The title says it all. Amphetamine Logic. (For more of this song, see the "Nice Hair"-comic.)

I know I said later Sisters isn't really my thing, but their greatest hit really is quite spectacular. Temple of Love is bombastic, contains the line life is short and love is always over in the morning (an excellent line to quote when you're eighteen and love so far has been an utter disappointment) and it has Ofra Haza. Also, a great threadmill-song.
