Poor Kate. :(

Perhaps the reason you volunteer for so many things is just to try and earn a pat on the head from people who won't acknowledge you during the work day because your efforts there are all 'just part of the job'?

Stop doing all the extra work. Who knows why you're doing it, but just stop. It certainly doesn't help you, and you're not getting paid for it. It's only stressing you out more and more, so why bother?

the sad thing is that not all of the BS is coming from the Japan side of the org. I work for... I just cannot get ahead...

Yeah, its going to suck either way... I think I am finally ready to go back to the US and start grad school in a year. What are you up to?

I was working at Blue Note Tokyo, one of the biggest jazz clubs in Japan and definitely one of the most refined jazz clubs in general. It was pretty stuffy, and I was sick of the weird treatment I got at work... Being there taught me a lot about etiquette and patience, not just in Japanese but in the corporate world in general. Even though I think to hell with polite Japanese, I understand the importance of it, and even with speaking politely in English in certain situations. Anyway, last week one of my coworkers blatantly humiliated me in front of the entire office and make me cry. The pressure has always been hard on me there, despite their neglecting my presence in general (they'd tell me to work harder, but then rarely give me anything to do, even if I asked for it or tried to just do something myself) and it just wore down my immune system finally as I got the flu last week (I rarely get sick ( ... )

Kuddos on telling the man to stick it! Things are looking a bit better here- a lot of stressful things have ended. I only have one big thing left to do- the annual English Club Video for Bunkasai- but I can do that a bit at a time. And I will be making the teachers who are officially in charge take some responsibility!

I am happy to hear you are secure in funds to float. I have to send a lot home to pay on loans. I could survive a month or two of unemployment, but not that long :(
I do enjoy things about Japan- but living down here seeing the stupid things about their education system and way of life, I know I need a Japan Break. Grad school is a good break. I know I will be back.

I am going to study politics, foreign relations, and maybe even see if law school is still an option- money wise... it will be painful whatever route I go.

What about you? You going to be a lifer in Japan?
