Beautiful. I'm glad you're putting aside the time to write and ponder God more. I wish I could say the same! Well, I am, it's just now (late night when Nathan and Josephine are both asleep and it's finally quiet). Starting a morning that way must be so peaceful.

I remember reading that passage sometime in the past year or so and thinking that was quite a messed up society (by our standards) to whore out your slave to your husband (rape? consensual? could she refuse?) and then try to claim the illegitimate children as your own.

Yes! All of it has been blowing my mind. And Abraham disavowed Sarah as his wife and allowed her to be taken by more powerful men -- TWICE. Both times, God showed that He cared more about that marriage than Abraham seemed to by punishing or threatening to punish the men who unknowingly took a married woman for themselves. Reading about that and so many other things they both did has me flabbergasted at how flawed they both were and how they were the ones God chose to use.
