Well, it wasn't quite the snowstorm they were talking about, but we got more than enough snow out of this one. And the drifting....I had drifts about 10" high in my driveway this morning. And somewhere along the way, there must have been a period of light sleet, because there was this crust of frozen stuff in a layer of the drift. I managed to move some of it around, enough for the Mr. to get up into the driveway. He's driving the Buick while his Honda is in the shop for the repairs for the damage caused by the deer. So I've rented a little yellow Chevy Aveo ( aka "The Little Yellow Taxi") and have been puttering around in it. I can see why people buy cars that are light colored like this one..it really stands out in a parking lot in a sea of darker colored cars! But it's little and I was getting buffeted by the wind last night when I was driving home. But it gets me where I need to go and it's kind of fun to drive.
Back to the snow. So I went out and started shoveling. I cleared a path from the garage to the side porch..the snow was almost up to my knees when I stepped off the porch to go to the garage to get the snow shovel. I was trying to get rid of the drifts in the middle of the driveway, but I was getting tired, so I went down and cleared all the snow and ice chunks at the foot of the driveway that were left from the plow. They have done a really good job of clearing the streets back here...in fact our streets were the clearest ones I drove on last night, which is pretty sad. I was out there almost two hours, and my shoulder was starting to hurt, so I came back in. A few minutes later, I glanced out the window and one of our neighbors from down the street was shoveling the rest of the snow. I stepped out on to the porch and thanked him. He said he'd taken the day off and was going around helping people shovel snow. Such a nice man!
So I'll be off to work in a few...we didn't get the truck we were supposed to get today, so it will be interesting to see what we've run out of by the time I get there. Especially the perishable stuff, like buns and such. And because no one else was going to get a truck (they have to come up here from Toledo..that wasn't going to happen last night!) everyone's been borrowing from each other.
The news media said the groundhog saw his shadow, so we should be getting spring in about 6 weeks...it can't happen soon enough for me!
I hope all of you who got ice along with your snow are doing okay. It sounded like Indiana and Ohio were going to get some nasty stuff! Stay safe!
