The last few nights at work have been particularly interesting..the combination of heat and humidity has given us a bumper crop of fish flies. I mean, they are everywhere ! At least everywhere that there is a light source for them to hover around. Which means pretty much every available square inch of the outside of the building. So every time we ( Read more... )

No, which is odd because our son and daughter--in-law lived in southern Georgia for about 6 years and we visited quite a bit. I'll have to ask them about the 'love bugs'! I'm thinking I should be grateful that we just get the fish flies here, yes?

Love bugs = colloquial name for a species of small, non-bitey flying beetle of FL. Don't know if they live in GA, actually. They swarm for mating purposes in early summer and can be seen just about everywhere, getting it on (hence the name).

They'll get plastered all OVER cars during that time - a great annoyance, since their bodies contain acids powerful enough to eat car paint if they smash on a vehicle. Love bug season = having to wash your car frequently, sometimes daily.

Ahhhh...sounds interesting, but I'm glad we don't have them! My son and DIL both grew up above the frost line and were fascinated/horrified by the quantity and variety of bugs that they saw during their time in Georgia. That, and the huge inflatable fire-ant at the building supply stores above whatever you would try to use to kill the things!

Thanks for the info, tho. :)
