Did you ever stop and wonder how you made it this far?
Tomorrow I will celebrate my 64th birthday. I'll be three years older than my father when he passed away. (Mom made it to 88..I'm planning on passing her too.) There are more and more people that don't have the same set of memories that I have... Ed Sullivan Show anyone?
Rin Tin Tin, The Lone Ranger, Wagon Train, Laramie, Rawhide, The Rogues, The Avengers,
Laugh-In, Bonanza, F-Troop ..I could go on and on. When space travel was new and exciting and we spent the whole day in school watching the coverage of the flights. Not that I'm not grateful for all the things we have now...cable TV, the Internet, better medicines, safer cars.
But some part of me misses the old days... when stores were closed on Sundays, no one was open on Thanksgiving or Christmas, there was a slower pace to life then, we weren't all in a rush to get to the Next Big Thing.
I've stepped back in my job.. I'm not a manager any more, just a crew chief, but I still get to work with mostly younger people and I like it. They're fun and hard working and they're willing to give the old lady a hand when she can't quite manage to lift the towel bucket up to the sink and drain out the water! I think they keep me young somehow..all that energy and excitement somehow rubs off on me and makes me feel younger again.
When I was in my twenties, I wondered what it would feel like to be 30, and then 40..it's basically the same, except you more more slowly and things creak sometimes!
And I almost forgot...senior moment there...the best thing about getting older is..grandchildren! The lastest two arrived safely November 19th. Both hale and hearty..and, as their Father remarked..needing to be fed every three hours! As I pointed out to him after he said it, "It's not like you haven't done this before!"
But I haven't done 'old age' before, so it will be interesting to see how things turn out!
