It's all relative.

Why is it that some people use the fact that they're related to someone who works in the same company as you do as an excuse to act like a jerk?

This kid came into work the other day..he's been involved in an auto accident with one of our crew and wanted to talk to her. He comes sauntering in and asks to speak to her..except he can't quite remember her name. Then he tells me " So-and-so is my uncle." Okay, I know who he's talking about (it's small company and I've worked for them since 1991) but I doubt that his uncle would be happy to hear about how his nephew is throwing his name around in an attempt to impress/scare people. He caused the accident when he blew through a yellow light and then slammed on his brakes and fishtailed into the front of our crew person's car. He'd also failed to clear any of the snow off the side and back windows of his car, but to hear him tell it, she had hit him. He's been calling her at home and not leaving messages, and because they both had to fill out an accident report, he knows where she lives. One of the crew who was up front with me told him that the lady would be right up, she just had to finish a few things in the back.
Apparently, he didn't like her tone of voice, because he immediately said "Are you giving me attitude?" (Not a good idea...this lady doesn't take any sh*t from anyone..he's lucky she didnt' come around the counter and confront him.) He eventually left, but I hope his parents already have a bail fund started, because with his attitude, they'll need it one of these days.
I had to keep myself from pointing out that I've probably known his uncle longer than he has, but I didn't think it would do any good.
