The writer's job is to tell an interesting story. Getting the characters in trouble is one way of doing this, but it’s not the only way, and saying "How can I mess these people's lives up?" constantly gets tiresome, even when it's Joss Whedon doing it.

I went on a fiction reading binge when I was sick (most memorable was Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen); but am now back on the research reading binge for the Weird Western. The cool thing is that I'm still working through the sources in the Enterprise city library (which is way! cool! love the librarians!) before I head up to the Josephy Center and their library.
