am currently job hunting. want to do research. am damn good at doing research. however all the research posts also seem to want you to bring in sufficent money to cover 100% of your salary. As you get more and more senior this gets harder - many charities specifically exclude the salary costs of the principle investigator. So whilst I could get

Oh love, that's distressing. Unfortunately, there seem to be few employers who judge by results these days - "tick box" mentality, including "hours with bum in seat" (or lecture theatre) rules.

No suggestions, just heartfelt sympathy.

Also have Christmas pressies still to exchange - they are at MArilyns so if you are around next time I'm down why don't you come over - Sat 3rd Feb or Sun 4th Feb after 7pm? Also (I'm am terrible ate everyone's names but this is particularly bad) what are the names of your two bundles of fun and joy 'cause I have some little pressies for them too and would like to label their gift tags.
