Dear all,
Please pass this information along to anyone you might know in the U.S. Thanks in advance!
Opportunity to Host a State Dept. Scholarship Student
Are you interested in learning about different cultures and languages or playing an active role in shaping the global perspective of a young leader from abroad? American Councils for International Education, an international non-profit, is seeking to connect with individuals and families across the U.S. about the opportunity to host a high school age student on one of three merit-based, U.S. State Department-sponsored scholarship programs. Students arrive in August for the academic year and come from Russia , Ukraine and other former Soviet countries, the Balkans and Afghanistan .
Students: Students participating on State Department scholarship programs have undergone a competitive selection process in order to earn the right to represent their countries in the U.S. Participants live with American host families, attend local high schools, make cultural presentations, perform volunteer community service, and participate in activities that build leadership skills and an understanding of the important components of a civil society. Students and families are supported by a local American Councils representative in their area. Hosting: Individuals and families interested in hosting should be able to provide their student with a safe, nurturing and primarily English-speaking home, a bed and place to study, meals and snacks, and assistance with getting acquainted with their community and transportation. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about this opportunity, please feel free to share this e-mail and contact information, or contact American Councils directly at inbound@americancouncils.org, 866-790-2086, 866-790-2086 or 202-833-7522.
We can then connect you with a local representative in your area. You can also learn more about us at
