Internet, help!

Internet, I need your help. And by internet, I mean people who might be reading this for whatever reason. I returned to classes today after a 2-week surgery-induced hiatus. It was stressful and painful, but reminded me of how much I honestly love this school and the people who attend/teach here. Which sort of leads to my cry for help. I got my ( Read more... )

Montreal isn't that far away from Sackville...it's a long drive or an even longer train ride, but long weekend visits are possible, and people come and go between the two places more than you would think.

In terms of the boyfriend...one year isn't very long, if you think that your darling-one will move to Montreal once he finishes his own education. That being said, long distance sucks ass. You already know this from experience, although your experience is vastly different from mine.

My advice: leave this place. I know relationships are a huge factor when deciding the future (and they should be!) but don't sacrifice what you want because someone else is still here. If you don't need honours and have a ticket into the school of your dreams, then do it. The rest will fall into place.

Actually, while Scott is a factor, if he were the main factor he'd be more likely to mean I'd go to Montreal, just because I've always vowed to never let a relationship dictate my academics. It's more being torn between honours/Sackville and McGill/law school and not being sure if I'm ready for the second one.

The honours research sounds pretty exciting, and to be honest, I'm jealous. It's for this sort of opportunity that I wish I had more of a background in philosophy - sometimes I regret spending my undergrad years studying music and only taking, so far, two philosophy courses (Plato's Republic and Intro Logic).

Graduating in four years is probably overrated, but what are the benefits, according to you, of sticking around for another year? Do they outweigh the benefits of moving on and up?
