Cameras flash.
Lights shine.
People shout.
Heels click.
And then, it rests;
Until next year.
This year is no different,
Yet somehow, it is.

They step from the car;
Looking ready for a night,
All about them;
A celebration.
His arm goes around her waist,
And hers around his;
Nothing questionable there.
They are friends, are they not?

They get stopped by interviewers,
And for a while,
The two of them can share a laugh;
About life, about the show they love,
But they know it’s coming.
And it does.

“So how has your relationship changed?”

He looks at her,
And she looks back.
Their eyes lock,
Then they nod.
It’s clear.
They need to tell.
And they do.

“A lot.”

They are a couple now.
They have been a couple,
For months now,
And hidden it well.
But they can’t play games,
At least not forever.

The interviewer is struck dumb,
As will be the rest of their fans;
And they aren’t surprised,
When he asks them again.

He is happy with her,
He says.
And she nods;
Saying that she is too.
His arm goes around her waist,
This time as a boyfriend, a lover,
Not a friend.
They are happy together.

Everyone knows It,
And a week later,
The excitement has died down.
But they still are followed.
Not in the literal sense,
But they are.

They have happiness,
Found in the company of each other,
And when they have that;
Neither of them care if they’re being followed,
Paparazzi can wait.

Love can’t.
