I dont know what to say here bb, but Ive been through the same thing. it took me over a year to get my parents to understand that depression was an illness and that i needed help. My mum would always tell me to stop being so negative ect and get on with life ect ect all that crap. never releasing how low I was.

I literally had to sit my parents down and demand they give me a hour of their attention. I showed them literature on depression and its symptoms. I had to open my heart to my mum who when she realised i was near suicidal finally realised it was serious.

Are you being medicated? or partaking in any CBT? because ill be honest with you, not being treated is the worst thing to do. Being on medication and going to therapy was the only thing that got me back on track.

I second that last paragraph.

I've had trouble with depression since I was 13, and I started therapy then and decided I didn't like it and stopped, and I got by ok until I was 17, and then I really needed to go back. And then I got by ok with just therapy for a year, and then had a complete mental breakdown (totally unprompted, just started out of nowhere) in the hallway at school and that's when they started me on medication. It can take a while to find the right one(s) and dosage, but honestly I don't think I'd have made it this far without medication. I was hospitalized at one point for being suicidal, because the meds I was on weren't enough, so they changed my dose at the hospital and then I was fine. And it's not like some people say, that it numbs or gives you false happiness, it just evens out the brain chemicals to where most people's are.
