Confessional

I hate yelling at people. I really do. But sometimes they give me little choice.

Qwest has this really great deal for long distance: 5 cents a minute, never more than $20 a month, no minimum, and no monthly fee. So I went with it and cancelled AT&T. Only the AT&T call center rep fought me on it, trying to convince me that of course AT&T had a better plan, which they don't -- I did my research first. Finally got a confirmation number, and was happy. This was last week.

Only in paying bills today, I saw that there was a long distance call billed to AT&T the following day, and AT&T seems to think I'm still their customer. So I called. And the call center rep stepped in it, big time. Once I confirmed phone number, he opened with, "I see you're an AT&T Customer ..." I interrupted and turned totally ugly American, snarling that I'm not an AT&T customer any more, and I have a confirmation number to prove it!

Again I had to do the yelling thing to get the rep to stop trying to sell me on an AT&T plan, to the point where I told him no matter what deal they offered in the future, their customer service was so bad I'd never come back. *les pant, les heave*

He conceded and did that slightly huffy thing some people do when the person they're talking with isn't being reasonable. Finally got an actual date it terminated, though of course they don't use cancel or terminate, but a "suspension" of account.

*mutter, mutter* If they'd been gracious about this, not hard sell, I would probably be back eventually, when Qwest stopped being more generous than believable. Now? Now I hate all long distance companies, since MCI calls me at 8am (per my caller id box), Sprint put calls that I didn't make on my bill, and now AT&T gets snarky.

I really hate getting mad at otherwise innocent people, but that hard sell routine, not listening to what I'm telling them, drives me totally mad. And yes, this post is because I feel guilty for it, especially since all indications are it's a call center in India and I was the classic ugly, obnoxious American. *sigh*
