Domestic Disaster

I think I've offended a household deity. Or so says my feeble attempt to make sense of a low-level disaster when I'm already under crunch time.

Outline due by sunrise at the latest, house guests arriving for five days starting Thursday evening, and NOW my washer decides to overflow and not only spread water throughout my laundry closet on the vinyl flooring, but onto the hallway carpeting as well. Sufficient water that when I step toward the laundry room, my sock immediately becomes soaked on the bottom.

wail!

Cleaning floor, checking dryer vent tube is securely fastened, shoving washer back a little further, cleaning shelving, sopping up water, standing on towels on carpeting, and now running fan on high on the carpeting. All this over the past hour, when I should be working on the outline.

All I wanted to do was do some laundry! Admittedly, in the over ten years I've lived here, it has occasionally happened before, but never this bad. It's due, I suspect to having two pairs of jeans and a t-shirt in the wash at once, and only those items. The agitation and start of spin cycles fling water up over the edge and onto the floor. No, I don't think washers are supposed to do that, but this is an apartment and my stacked washer/dryer does.

I'd hoped to have the outline half-done by now. I can see it's going to be a long night. *whine*
