Perhaps George Listened?

As I read the following, it sounds like we might get the original, since it says restored, not enhanced. If so, I'm SO adding it to my collection. On September 21 Lucasfilm Ltd. and Fox Home Entertainment will release the Star Wars trilogy on DVD in the US and Canada. The four disc set includes, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The ( Read more... )

No *way*. He'd previously said he wasn't going to release 4-6 until 3 was out.

Not that I'm complaining. I just hope it *is* the original theatrical release.

Apparently not the original (a pox on the box set, then), but I understand the "Chapter 3" movie is due out this summer, so September would mean he kept that part of his word.

Nope, Episode 3 comes out in May 2005. They are just beginning SFX work now, and still haven't went back for pick-up shots.

Also, no web trailers yet. Usually they are available from LucasFilm five months before the premiere.

That totally sucks. It has a suckage level that surpasses the Bakshi "Lord of the Rings" movie!

Well, I suppose I should look upon it as saving money. If it's not the 1977 original theatrical release, then I don't want it. Idiots. *mutter, mutter*

Thanks for the hard data.

What I don't get is why they can't include the original, untampered versions in the package, because everyone I know, I mean everyone, upon hearing the news that it's the 1997 versions only have snorted and said bugger that.

Hello, Lucasfilm marketing department? Wanna get a clue anytime soon?

Sigh.

These will be the Digitally Enhanced version with all the new CGI stuff that was added in the late 90s. Lucas still refuses to release the original editions which the fans want.

There is also some question as to whether these will be the actual digital enhanced copies from the 90s or if he is enhancing them further to bring them more in line with the events of 1-3.

I wouldn't mind the "enhanced" editions if the editing toward the end of Empire wasn't so horrible. The music track was butchered to add that little scene of Vader heading back to the Star Destroyer.

I'll save my money (and my viewing energy) for the full, three-in-one, extended but now with bathroom breaks LotR DVDs.
