War Requiem

I could write a paper on this piece. Every measure is packed with meaning and care. I almost feel bad for the audience, that they will only get to hear it once and not be able to dissect it over the better part of a year like I have.

If you wrote a paper on it I would read it.

(I wish I could put my money where my mouth is and offer babysitting so you have time to write.)

I might write bits here, actually. It's a positively extraordinary piece.

There was a guy on the Kojo Nnamdi show I heard on the way to work a month or two ago who did a really good bit on how people -- even classical musicians -- sometimes don't always hear all of the bits in music they've heard hundreds of times.

I loved it, especially the bit where he deconstructed the theme music to the show. Check it out: http://thekojonnamdishow.org/shows/2012-12-10/what-makes-it-great-classical-music-and-beyond-rob-kapilow
