Selling my crap

Ugh. Tomorrow my family is having a garage sale. I hate garage sales. They're so depressing. I hate having people look through my stuff and determining what's good enough for them to consider. Hey, if it was good enough for me to keep around in a dusty closet for 7 years, it's good enough for you! I don't have a ton of stuff, but I think what ( Read more... )

Ah, sweet cash! I made about $80 today with all my junkola. Overall, we (the family) made over $650. Not too shabby. My grandma was the luckiest, coming in with $250. I'm glad, she can always use a little extra spending money even though she'll probably just want to take us all out to dinner or something.

The best part was that the realtor came by during the sale. She took a quick look through the house and said she's going to list it for $318,000! Like everywhere else in CA, the housing market is totally out of control and prices just keep going up. But, this was about $50,000 more than what we were even thinking. My grandparents bought the house in 1965 for something ridiculous like $14,000. And, there were at least 3 couples who came by for the garage sale but then wanted to look at the house too when they heard it was for sale. I think it's going to move pretty fast.

Phen, my grandma is like, the anti-packrack. So lucky for us. She's been giving stuff away to her kids, grandkids, neighbors, gardeners, housekeepers, etc. for about 10 years. There was still lots of stuff to sell, but nearly as bad as it could be. Of course, we all conceded that the piece of junk item we sold for 50 cents is probably going to end up on Antiques Roadshow and be worth like $5,000 ( ... )

Hey! You found me! Yes, I'm quite pleased with my sales. I salvaged a few things of my grandmas that I couldn't bear to see her sell (just silly momento stuff). But, I won't have to go to the ATM for probably a week, so I'm happy.

Just checked your WC journal, Bets. Glad you've got plans to keep yourself busy. I'm totally thinking about ya!
