NaNoWriMo

Oct 05, 2010 19:20

I've officially decided to do NaNoWriMo this year. One of the challenges I have with writing is I'm a slow writer--particularly when it comes to first drafts. And I like revising much better than writing a first draft. So I've decided to do NaNoWriMo this year.

Any suggestions from those who have done NaNoWriMo before? What works well, what doesn

writing

Good luck with it. Personally, NaNo scares me. Not only am I slow at writing (no matter the draft), but November is always such an insane month for me, I'm lucky to get 10K done, let alone an entire novel!

I feel like I'm a somewhat slow writer, but I do really well when I have outside deadlines...so I'm hoping this helps me.

I hope it will be worth it for me. It's true--so many other life factors impact whether nano is possible. I'll just have to do my best!

I'm doing it this year. It's really fun and for some reason, seeing that little bar grow with my word count motivates me. I've tried doing my own bar graph but it isn't the same for me. My advice, be consistent and write something every day. Ha! Not that I'm always able to do that, but I see a difference when I do. :) I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I do well with outside motivators, so hopefully nano (and the growing bar) helps.

I hope you do well with nano too!

Stay caught up. It's so much easier to do 2k words a day than 4 or 5k because you got behind.

I never finish NaNo though, not because I can't write a novel that fast, but because I can't write a novel that fast in November. Who put that thing during the holidays, anyway? The only worse month would be December.

Also, in case your interested, my writing group is looking for new members. We meet on Wednesdays at my place. No pressure, of course--I know it's a long drive for you--but if you need feedback as you draft, you'd be welcome.

If you have a hard day (as in you can't think of what to write), try something outrageous :)

I think I might do this again this year, as well...I'm planning a story in my head, just in case.

That's a good idea--write anything, even absurd, to keep going. And who knows--maybe the absurd is what's supposed to happen to the characters.
