Ok, I've danced around it, tried to make lemonade from lemons, found a way to turn the other cheek as they stripped benefit upon benefit away from me, but now Borders has just gone too far. Despite the fact that I work mainly on the floor as a barista and cashier in the cafe and do all the grunt work that all the other baristas do, Borders decided

the tip thing is probably because of that scandal at starbucks, not that it's really justified.

If your regulars still want to tip you, tell them to hand it directly to you and not but it in the little tip bucket. Or they could mail it to you lol.

That really does suck though...very strange too...it's not like the tips affect the company. Since you did agree when you took the job that your compensation would be hourly wages plus tips, you could call HR about the matter. You could even call HR about them making you stay to do a job that wasn't yours (re-stocking magazines), especially since, in theory, you were never "trained" to be a bookseller. Where are you going to be working once you leave Borders?
