...I have now advanced to the point where Firefox gives me my desired homepage, but only as a secondary tab to a Yahoo search page. Every time I turn off my computer it gets back into my config file. INFURIATING. (Unfortunate download-related click - I was distracted. Got most of it out pretty quickly, but the damn homepage won't reset

Antivirus software still running? You could have been hacked. I would try to fix and install the NoScript add-on to Firefox.

Chrome is fine. But if you're hacked that won't fix it, of course.

Well, if I am my antivirus can't find it - you inspired me to go do a full scan, backup drive included, which did find a few things but did not fix the Yahoo problem. So, silver lining I guess?
