I am declaring victory on wedding #1!

Jun 04, 2015 22:48

I have two weddings to attend this month, back-to-back weekends. The first one is... sort of themed? But I'm calling it on the outfit I've currently got worked out (minus the decision of what to use for a waist sash pin, and maybe some new earrings if I'm feeling excitable ( Read more... )

I don't know how you do it. Especially when splitting the difference. And dresses. I avoid certain social events now because I have no idea how to dress.

Ugh, I know, it's no fun. I - this will sound kind of weird - I almost think of it as a Magic Eye thing. Don't think about it, just present your hindbrain with options and see if they ping!

I don't dress all that well for work about 50% of the time, granted, but at least I know I'm doing it? I need to start laying out clothes the night before so I don't get caught in the "jeans don't need to be ironed" trap.

Sketchers now makes the most unbelievably comfortable wedge-heeled sandals for dressy! I bought a pair for Orating at Convocation (I had to stand up for hours!) and they were fan-freakin'-tastic:

Sci-Fi Wedge Sandal

Seriously, I have not worn heels in ten years b/c of my horrible feet and I love these things. I can walk distances! Stand for ages! Wear a pretty summer dress for a change!

Anyway, if you're looking to invest in a pair of heels that don't kill you, I recommend having a peek at Sketchers.

And I'm sure you'll look loverly. You always do!

Ooo, those are... probably not something that would work for the weddings, but definitely a possibility to replace my old walkable-but-appropriate-for-work black sandals, the demise of which I've been in denial about for a year now. Ordered.

I know someone else whom I assume is going to the same Themed Wedding and I spent my hour of insomnia last night worrying about her shoes. My conclusion was Fleuvogs, for retro yet comfort. In case you have an extra $400 lying about.

(You didn't sew your own dress, did you?)

Well now I'm very curious about what this theme might be!

For the ladies, this entails daytime dress. We encourage evoking a spirit of a hundred years ago: ladies wearing hats or fascinators, lace, pearls, short day gloves and fans. Given the ceremony is on the last day of spring, bright spring or summer colors would be appropriate.

With, of course, the caveat that there's no obligation to comply. But I do want to make an effort.

That's the one! Sadly I do not have an extra $400 lying about that I am willing to spend on shoes. And no, I am not sewing my own dress. The someone else who you know is nuts, yo. (I am Not Crafty.)

I wish I could declare victory on wedding #1, but that won't be until we're sitting around in the apartment in Le Marais sipping wine and wondering what to do with ourselves.

Granted your stress level about it is much higher than mine. But you do get a shiny prize at the end!

The second wedding reminds me of the June openings at the theatre I attend. It used to say cocktail on the invitation, which is easy peasy. Now it says summer business casual?!?! Every time I invite someone new to attend one of these with me they roll their eyes at the dress code. The first time I attended under the new code I went with dressy capris, modest tank top and a very light weight elbow length sweater. I was so underdressed! So now I go with a maxi dress and a comfy pair of sandals, sort of like what troyswann pointed at.

Oh, yeah, what does that even mean? (I just went and asked the internet, and it has some opinions but the summary seems to be "we made this thing up a few years ago."

Ahahaha I just found a page that suggests that "dressy shorts" are a must. WTF? Granted I live on the East Coast, but I do not believe in "business dressy shorts."
